Restoring 500 hectares of Fish Forests

Restoring 500 hectares of Fish Forests

At Verdant, we spend a lot of time racking our brains about what makes a good community and how we can contribute to it. To us, community is about bringing people together, supporting meaningful causes and encouraging projects that work towards positive lasting change.

We’ve recently partnered with Plant One, a local organisation that has set itself an almighty goal of restoring 500 hectares of fish forests over the next five years. Verdant has proudly joined the cause as a founding partner of the No Trees No Seas campaign. This initiative highlights the importance of healthy connections between forests, seas, and everything in between.

The health of woodlands directly influences the health of adjacent marine ecosystems. Together, these habitats form a single system called a flowscape: a living system made up of forests, rivers, the sea and the water that flows between them. Restoring a full circle marriage between trees and seas is a further reminder that environmental restoration isn’t about fixing one problem but about understanding the bigger picture.

When considering partnerships, we were adamant about staying clear of greenwashing, as it has become a far-too-common monster! If we are going to put ourselves behind something, it must be a cause that makes a genuine difference, which is why we have committed to providing funding for Plant One’s ‘No Trees No Seas’ campaign over the coming years.

So far, we have hosted a screening of the documentary “No Trees No Seas” at the Taproom, bringing people together to learn more about the project and the science behind it. It was a great opportunity for people to meet the Plant One team, start conversations and connect with others who share the same ethos. Over the coming years, we will continue to promote Plant One’s work to help them reach their restoration goals. Every event and every donation aims to move the project a little further towards its mission.

The exciting thing about No Trees No Seas is that it isn’t asking people to solve climate change on their own; instead, it invites communities to be part of something bigger. Whether it’s attending an event, learning about flowscapes, sharing the campaign or simply supporting the cause, everyone has the opportunity to get involved. Because ultimately, this affects us all. Healthier forests, cleaner rivers and thriving seas don’t just support wildlife; they create cleaner air, healthier ecosystems and a better environment for future generations. We are incredibly proud to play a part in making this happen. Ecological change doesn’t happen overnight, but every great project starts with a willing and enthusiastic community!

To learn more, get involved, or support: Plant One has set a fundraising target of £300,000 for the ‘No Trees No Seas’ campaign. Keep an eye out for our events over the coming months. After all, what’s better than great beer, thriving ecosystems and a positive community?
