Sometimes, an opportunity comes along that elevates everything we do, and in this case, it's merging our world of modern brewing with the legacy of one of the most iconic artists in history.
We are really excited to announce our third major collaboration with the TATE, celebrating the upcoming exhibition at Tate Modern: "Frida: The making of an icon".
Frida: The Making of an Icon, starting on June 25th, will showcase over 30 of Kahlo’s most iconic works that introduce her ‘many selves’ – the dedicated wife, the intellectual, the modern artist, and the political activist. Alongside treasured garments, jewellery, photographs and memorabilia, there are over 200 works by her contemporaries and the artists she inspired from later generations, celebrating her lasting impact on those who continue to reimagine and reclaim her remarkable story.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that we’ve partnered with TATE before, first in 2023 for The First Note, a 5.2% ABV juice-heavy Pale Ale brewed to celebrate the landmark Hilma af Klint & Piet Mondrian exhibition. Our second collab, REZ, was created to celebrate the Electric Dreams exhibition back in 2024. This 5.2% ABV hop-forward pale ale is brewed with Citra, Mosaic, and Riwaka hops, adorned with a label that reflects the glitch and glow of pre-internet electronica.
Fast-forward to 2026, and this year’s collaboration feels like a very special one, as it allowed us to dive deep into the heart, history, and striking dualities of Frida Kahlo’s life and work. Working closely with the expert team at Tate, we wanted to move past the usual visual shorthand of her image and truly explore what her art stood for, as well as taking inspiration from her personal life.
The result? Two distinct beers that beautifully reflect the vibrant environment and emotional depth of Kahlo’s world.
The Beers

🌸 I Would Give Her Flowers | Mexican Lager (4.5%)
Our production team has wanted to create a Mexican Lager for a very long time, and the alignment with this exhibition provided the perfect moment to do so. Inspired by Kahlo’s deep love of the native flora that adorned her sanctuary garden at La Casa Azul, this is the main supporting beer for the exhibition, designed to be crisp, bright, and accessible.
The profile: A beautifully crisp and clean lager featuring a rounded malt body with a noticeable flaked maize note in the grist.
The twist: Rather than introducing actual lime in the recipe, we utilised the incredible New Zealand hop Motueka to bring a vibrant, natural, limey zing to the finish.
🌵 Tender Thorns | IPA (6.5%)
Designed as a companion piece to the lager, Tender Thorns is a classic, juicy Verdant-style IPA aimed squarely at our biggest fans across the UK. It represents the profound theme of duality found throughout Kahlo's work: the contrast between a fragile, beautiful flower and the harsh, spiky, resilient outer shell of a cactus.
The profile: Soft, sluggable, and remarkably low in bitterness with a big, fluffy, pillowy body.
The hops: A heavy-hitting combination of Citra and Motueka hops that delivers absolute "creamy limes for days!"
The Art Behind the Label
If you look closely at the beautiful label designs, you will see how our Creative Director, James Wright, brought these themes to life. Straight from the beginning of the project, it was very much a collaborative process with Tate, initially to establish some deeper themes in Kahlo’s work that might be relevant and then to extend those themes into creative concepts. The overriding intention was to avoid clichés and draw some attention to interesting aspects of Kahlo’s work and life.
Out of the resulting research, everyone agreed that the theme of dualities was the standout thing to focus on, and this led us to the concept of basing the designs around the cactus and cactus flower. The duality of fragile beauty vs hardy endurance fitted the bill perfectly and reflected something integral to both Kahlo’s work and personal life.
The striking contrast between the soft pink flora and the robust green needles perfectly encapsulates the enduring strength and delicate beauty that defined Frida Kahlo.
